Water New Zealand is proud to support Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) from 14th to 21st September 2024. This year’s theme, "Te Rerenga Wai, Te Rerenga Kōrero – Flowing Conversations," celebrates the deep connection between wai (water) and tāngata (people) in Te Ao Māori.

Water is fundamental to life, embodying mauri (life force) in Te Ao Māori. It is much more than a physical element—it holds deep spiritual significance. In our modern world, reestablishing a connection with water, both physically and spiritually, is essential.

Their 2024 theme is brought to life through a beautiful poster and six reflective questions that invite us to explore our relationship with water:

Nō wai koe? – Which waters do you originate from?

Nā wai koe? – Whose waters are you descended from?

He wai koe? – What type of water are you?

Ko wai koe? – Who are you (which waters define you)?

Mā wai koe? – Whose waters will descend from you?

Mō wai koe? – Which waters will you provide benefit to?

Download the special poster from Water NZ and join us in honoring this connection during Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.

Ko ahau te wai, ko te wai ahau – I am the water, and the water is me.
